Comments:This is John Brennan, active member of the VHCMA and the 114th Avn Co Assn. I'm collecting "names" (e.g. FLYING COFFIN, IRON BUTTERFLY) that in-country Army copter crews painted on their aircraft during their Vietnam tours, 1961-73. Future book by aviation publisher is in the making. Have cataloged 2,671 names to date. I expect that number to exceed 3,000 when complete. Would very much like to include as many PERSONALIZED copter names as possible. Photos of "names" are fine but not necessary to be included in the database section of the book. "Names" alone will do. The second part of this book project is the photo collection of helicopter "nose art" that includes "names", artwork, graffiti, everything & anything that was painted officially and unofficially on in-country Army copters, 1961-73. Send "name" info and/or scanned "nose art" pics to johnmailman@yahoo.com Regards, John Brennan, former SP5, Flight Operations Coordinator, 114 AHC, Vinh Long AAF, Mekong Delta, 1970-71 PS: In-Country YEARBOOKS are often a great source for copter "names". Take a peek and give me a shout if something interesting is found.

Comments:You have an outstanding web site, but I have some questions. If you were activated at Ft. Benning as the 62nd Avn Co. on 6 August 1964 how come my unit the 62nd Avn Co was activated at the same time and place as your's was. My unit the 62nd CAC was the XXIV Corps asset company (aviation) in Phu Bai and Danang. my unit was constuted on 3 April 1962 as the 62nd Avn Co. Are we connected?

Comments:Was the last of the 25th Division Door Gunner Platoon Leaders Sep-Dec 65. Returned to 25th, and was back in Viet Nam 10 Days later as part of the 3rd Brigade Advanced Party into Pleiku. Many fond memories of my days flying with incredibly good pilots in the Outlaws and Mavericks. Retired in 84.

Comments:http://www.veteranprograms.com/id194.html Many veterans encountered problems when trying to prove that their difficult-to-diagnose or undiagnosed illnesses were connected to military service. This affected these veterans’ access to disability compensation. http://www.veteranprograms.com/id194.html In response, VA asked Congress for the authority to provide compensation benefits to veterans who are chronically disabled by undiagnosed illnesses. http://www.veteranprograms.com/id194.html Click on hyperlinks to read more about these new Compensation Programs. http://www.veteranprograms.com/id194.html

Comments:The soldier stood and faced his God Which must always come to pass... He hoped his shoes were shining Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and Said,"No, Lord, I guess I ain't... Because those of us who carry guns Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays And at times my talk was tough, And sometimes I've been violent, Because the streets are awfully tough. But, I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime When the bills got just too steep, And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear, And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here... They never wanted me around Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand, I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand." There was a silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod... As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God, "Step forward now you soldier, Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell." Dedicated to Mike Haley and all the other men and woman who have fought and served and paid the price for my freedom. Thank you so much.

Comments:I've been reading the contacts made by former Outlaws, Mavericks, Signal guys, Roadrunners, etc. etc. during the past several months. Just wanted to encourage all of you to strongly consider signing up for the Outlaw reunion in Nashville next Sep/Oct 2010. It will be fabulous ! Frank Estes has done an outstanding job of pulling together hundreds of details to make this the best reunion ever. He was particularly fortunate to have gotten the Opryland hotel to give us a fantastic price for rooms for the resort hotel, plus NO TAX! See the reunion link for details, but PLEASE, PLAN TO COME. Who knows how many more of these we can continue to pull together when you consider the aging of all us "old soldiers".
